Nights Away Policy.

Letter to Leaders and Members from the Merseyside Scout Council on the 8th July 2003

Dear Colleague,

Scout and Explorer Scout Residential Experiences

I am writing to inform you of an intermediary support mechanism that is being implemented in this County,in preparation for the launch of the Nights Away Permit Scheme, during 2004.

From 1st August 2003, Scouts and Explorer Scouts who wish to camp at Tawd Vale without any
accompanying adults will need to complete a “Nights Away Authorisation” for that particular event. This Authorisation must be endorsed by any of the following people:

• Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts)
• District Explorer Scout Commissioners
• District Commissioners

The completed Authorisation must then be handed in to Tawd Vale staff on arrival – failure to present this Authorisation would mean that those Scouts / Explorer Scouts would be turned away.

Please remember that this is only required if members of Troops or Units are camping without adult leaders. Our intentions are to begin to improve the standards of camping throughout the County and introducing this mechanism at an early stage will ease the introduction of the formal scheme next year.

Please find enclosed a copy of our County Authorisation(see below) – this should be used until the new scheme is
launched in this County. I would be grateful if you would circulate as widely as possible.

Best Regards,

John Cadman,
Nights Away Advisor.
